Waste fire extinguished inside derelict warehouse

Firefighter extinguishing fire

We have extinguished a fire which was started deliberately inside a derelict warehouse in Stoke-on-Trent.

Last night (22 January), we received reports of a fire inside a disused building on Portland Street in Hanley. Crews from Sandyford, Hanley and Newcastle were sent to the scene at about 5pm.

Breathing apparatus and hose reel jets were used to extinguish a small fire inside. We searched the building to make sure no one was injured and everyone was accounted for.

We found a pile of rubbish inside the building which had been set alight deliberately. Crews made sure the area was safe before leaving the scene.
