Stoke-on-Trent fire started accidentally

A fire in Stoke-on-Trent has been found to have started accidentally.

We were informed at about 3.20pm yesterday (Thursday 13 May) of an incident taking place on Bold Street in Northwood.

Crews from Hanley, Sandyford and Newcastle-under-Lyme arrived to find a blaze burning in the kitchen and the occupier requiring urgent medical attention.

Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, with the latter seeing to the occupier, a man aged in his 80s. Despite their best efforts they were unable to save the man and he tragically died at the scene.

The fire was found to have started on a cooking hob in the kitchen and was extinguished by 4.40pm. Fire Investigators have since found the ignition to be accidental.
