Daring rescue demonstrations, fire appliances, treasure hunts and much more will be entertaining visitors to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Family Day next month.

The biannual event – which is free to attend – will take place on Saturday 10 September from 11am-3pm at the Service’s Pirehill headquarters near Stone.

The service’s aerial ladder platform, Unimog off-road vehicle, and other emergency vehicles will be showcased at the event, while firefighters will demonstrate rope rescues and extrication techniques that are used in road traffic collisions.

Young people can take part in various games and activities, from penalty shoot outs to hook-a-duck, as well as enter competitions to win a host of top prizes including an Amazon Fire HD10 tablet and Go Ape tickets.

Children can also sign up to join the service’s Welephant Club, find hidden prizes in a treasure hunt and meet our trusty mascots!

Refreshments including a barbecue, hog roast, children’s meals, ice creams and hot and cold drinks will be available to purchase. Picnics are also welcome and there is a complimentary water dispenser on site.

Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber, said: “We are all looking forward to welcoming members of the communities we serve to our headquarters to enjoy family day with us.

“The event has always proved very popular with people of all ages and this year will be no different.

“There will be a wide range of activities and entertainment and it is also a great opportunity to learn more about the fire and rescue service and the work we do.

“We will be joined by partners from across the county including Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, New Era and the Canal & River Trust. It will be a fun-packed day and even better, it is completely free of charge to attend – parking is free too!”

“All of the profits from the event will go directly to the Fire Fighters Charity. They are an extremely worthwhile cause offering specialist, lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community.

“Due to the pandemic this is the first Family Day since 2018, preparations are already well underway and we cannot wait to welcome you all!”
