Service supports warm spaces scheme with more locations

We are opening the doors to more of our fire stations as part of the warm spaces scheme, to support those struggling with the cost of living crisis.

A number of our fire stations are providing a warm space this winter for the local community to come and enjoy companionship, conversation, activities and hot drinks. Fire service staff will also be on hand to give fire safety advice and to signpost to partner organisations that may be able to offer support in relation to the cost of living.

The scheme began in November and Longton Community Fire Station on Uttoxeter Road is the latest to launch a new session. The ‘warm space’ will be available every Wednesday from 2pm – 4pm beginning on 11 January.

Other warm spaces across Staffordshire include:

Gnosall Community Fire Station, Wharf Road, ST20 0DB – Every Tuesday and Wednesday 10am – 2pm
Stafford Community Fire Station, Beaconside, ST18 0DD – Every Thursday 10am – 2pm
Rugeley Community Fire Station, Bryans Lane, WS15 2JN – Every Friday 10am – 3pm
Lichfield Community Fire Station, Birmingham Road, WS13 6HU – Every Thursday 1.30pm – 3pm
Burton Community Fire Station, Moor Street, DE14 3SU - Every Friday 1.30pm – 3pm
Chase Terrace Community Fire Station, Rugeley Road, Burntwood, WS7 1AQ – Every Wednesday 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Speaking of the scheme, Head of Prevent and Protect, Ian Read, said: “I am pleased that we are able to offer these facilities to our communities who are facing considerable challenges this winter.

“I would encourage anyone who is experiencing difficulties in heating their homes and dealing with the cost of living crisis to come along and visit our stations.

“Not only will you be welcomed with a cuppa, you’ll also meet some friendly faces and find out more about how our service can support you. We’ll be using the sessions as an opportunity to raise awareness of our campaign, ‘Be Warm. Be Safe’ which is about encouraging people to warm their homes safely.”
