Public urged to register home appliances following a fire in Rugeley
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging residents to register home appliances following a fire in Rugeley.
It takes minutes to do – and by registering your appliance, manufacturers can contact you if that product has been noted as faulty or dangerous, and advise on the next steps.
On Thursday (12 November) just after 10am, a crew from Rugeley were called to a property in the Hawksyard area after a washing machine set alight.
Fortunately the blaze was small and had not spread to other items in the kitchen. The washing machine had been removed to the front garden by the resident and fire fighters used a hose reel jet to ensure that the fire was out and cool the appliance.
During the incident the crew investigated the cause of the fire and found the washing machine had been recalled in December 2019 amid fire safety concerns, after an issue had been identified with the door locking mechanism.
Mark Downes from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It is really important to register your electrical items and keep an eye out for any recalled items so you know not to use them.

“If you are concerned about the safety of a product please stop using it immediately.”
