Lichfield flats evacuated for safety of residents

A flat fire at Ridware House on Hobs Road in Lichfield was reported to emergency services just after 1pm this afternoon (12 November).

Crews from Lichfield, Tamworth, Rugeley, Barton-under-Needwood and Burton attended and extinguished a fire on the third floor and assisted with the safe evacuation of the residents.

A woman suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Burton.

As a result of fire damage and fire safety compromises, specifically to the fire alarm system, integral fire doors and the communal stairwell, the building has been evacuated for the safety of the residents. We are working with Lichfield District Council, who are arranging emergency accommodation for residents from the 32 flats.

An investigation into the cause is underway.
