Investigation underway following flat fire in Stoke-on-Trent

An investigation is currently underway following a fire at a block of flats in Stoke-on-Trent.

Fire crews from Hanley were called by police shortly after 5am on Saturday (16 January) to reports of a fire in a flat at Ruxley Court on Ruxley Road.

Police had evacuated residents as a precaution.

Fire fighters rescued a 20-year-old woman from the window of a flat.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Another woman, aged 42, was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire was later extinguished and residents safely returned to their homes shortly before 7am.
