Firefighters rescue kitten trapped in engine compartment

It might be true what they say about cats having nine lives after we rescued a kitten which was stuck in a car engine in Stoke-on-Trent.

At 2.30pm yesterday (13 September), the driver of a Vauxhall Zarifa heard a strange sound coming from their vehicle on Foley Street in Fenton. He turned off the engine and called for help after realising the noise appeared to be an animal in distress.

We sent a crew from Longton to the scene who started work to free the animal.

By 3.05pm, firefighters had managed to free the kitten who had become stuck inside an engine compartment. They lifted the car using air bags and helped the kitten by removing the engine cover.

Luckily, the kitten did not appear injured. Crews named the kitten Zarifa, given it seemed to like the car so much, and gave the animal food and water at the local fire station before it was taken to a local vet for precautionary checks.

The kitten has been left in the care of the RSPCA whilst attempts to find the owner are ongoing.
