Fire station hosts event for Ukrainian families

We welcomed more than 30 Ukrainian guests at a community event held at Leek Fire Station.

The event, held on Saturday (11 March) saw local Ukrainian families and their supporters meet firefighters at the station, where they learnt about the role of the service and even had a tour of the station and its appliances.

Local supermarkets donated goods to the Ukrainian community and the event was also supported by a local butchers.

The event also saw lots of conversations taking place and new friendships formed between the Ukrainian guests and firefighters.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj, who organised the event with the Ukrainian families, said: “We have a duty to develop strong community networks and ensure we can help to keep them safe.

“We were delighted to have hosted our local Ukrainian group at Leek and feel privileged to have met the local families and volunteers.

“We hope this is the first of many events held at the fire station with the local Ukrainian community.”
