Fire crews issue advice after dishwasher fire

Fire fighters are reminding people to check their appliances and keep their homes safe from electrical fires after crews were called to a house fire in Tamworth.

Fire fighters were called at 9.30pm to Churchside, Harlston, on Thursday (4 November).

Crews from Tamworth and Mercia attended and found a fire in the kitchen originating from the dishwasher.

No one was injured.

Fire fighters used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire which was later deemed accidental due to an electrical fault.

Crews left the scene shortly before 10.30pm.

Faulty electrical appliances cause around 7,000 house fires across the country every year.

Fire fighters advise that in order to prevent electrical fires:

• Unplug appliances when you are going to bed or not using them.
• High powered appliances such as washing machines should have a single plug socket.
• Never leave appliances on overnight or when you go out
• Use the register my appliance website to register your appliances and check for safety updates and repair notifications.
