Fatal Norton house fire caused accidentally

A fatal house fire in Norton was caused accidentally, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

A woman, in her 70s was pronounced dead by the ambulance service following the fire, which took place on Mallorie Road at about 11.20am, on 10 December.

A number of dogs were rescued from the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire concluded on 14 December and confirmed that the blaze was started by the disposal of cigarettes.

Graham Mills, Head of Emergency Response, at the fire service said: “This was a tragic accident in which sadly a woman lost her life.

“Our thoughts remain with her friends and family at this difficult time.”
