Dog rescued from lake after falling through ice

Frozen lake

We are reminding all dog owners to keep their pets on a lead around ice after a dog was rescued from a lake in Stafford.

Crews were called at 1.10pm yesterday (Wednesday 7 January) to Hyde Lea Bank after a   medium-sized dog fell through thin ice into the lake.

Crews attended the scene and used a reach pole to rescue the dog, which was then taken to the vets.

Group Manager Jordan Money, who attended the scene, said: “Frozen ponds, rivers and lakes can be very dangerous and are best avoided, by both people and animals.

“I would remind dog owners to keep their pets on a lead around ice so that they are not at risk of falling in.

“If the worst happens, never attempt to rescue them yourself, call 999.”
