Crews remove driver trapped in car following collision

Fire crews have safely removed a man who was trapped inside a car following a collision in south Staffordshire.

Firefighters were called to the A5, Weston-under-Lizard, at 6.30pm yesterday (Monday 4 July) following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

Crews from Cannock and Penkridge attended as did West Midlands Ambulance Service, the air ambulance, Highways and Staffordshire Police.

On arrival, crews found a green Honda Civic and a white Volvo lorry involved in a collision.

The car was found on its roof with a 24-year-old man, the driver and sole occupant in the car, trapped inside.

The driver of the car was removed from the car by crews using hydraulic cutting equipment and treated at the scene by paramedics for serious injuries.

Shortly after, he was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Crews left the scene at 8.10pm.

The incident has been left in the care of Staffordshire Police.
