A man has sadly died following a fatal shed fire which was caused accidently in Stoke-on-Trent.

We were called to an address near Birches Head Road at 12.26pm on Sunday (8 October), following reports of a shed fire.

Crews from Longton, Hanley and Sandyford went to the scene and began work to extinguish the fire using hose reel jets.

A man, in his 70s, suffered serious injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Sadly, he later died as a result of his injuries.

The fire was extinguished and crews stayed at the scene to investigate the cause alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police. It was later deemed accidental after a discarded cigarette had set alight inside the shed.

No one else was injured and fire crews left the area a short time later.
