Crews extinguish deliberate fire in derelict building

Fire engine

We have extinguished a fire that was started deliberately inside a derelict building in Stoke-on-Trent.

Multiple crews were sent to Leek Road in Milton shortly after 7.40pm on Sunday (30 June) when flames were seen on the inside of the building on the cemetery grounds.

Firefighters used hose reel jets to bring the fire under control while the electric was isolated to make the area safe.

We ventilated the building and carried out a scan to make sure no hotspots were left over.

No-one was injured.

After inspecting the cause, we deemed the fire to have been started deliberately. The incident is now with our colleagues at Staffordshire Police.
