Warning to check light fittings following accidental house fire

Warning to check light fittings following accidental house fire
We are urging residents to ensure their light fittings are correctly installed following an accidental house fire in Stoke-on-Trent recently.
We were called shortly before 10pm yesterday (Thursday 31 July) to a property off Upper Belgrave Road in Normacot.
Two crews attended and assisted four people out of the property.
Three people were assessed discharged by paramedics at the scene.
One person was taken to hospital by ambulance as a result of smoke inhalation.
Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the fire.
The fire was later deemed accidental as a result of a faulty light fitting.
We left the scene at 11.30pm.
In order to protect yourself and your property from the dangers of an electrical fire, it’s important to:
- Ensure all light fittings are correctly installed by a professional
- All lights are fitted with appropriate bulbs suitable for the fitting
- No bare cables or electrical wires are exposed
- Sockets are not overloaded
- Ensure all appliances have a British or European safety mark present.
