Warning issued after fire starts due to reflective material
We are reminding the public of the dangers of leaving reflective material in direct sunlight after a fire was started accidentally in Stoke-on-Trent.
We were called shortly before 7pm on Wednesday (2 July) to a property on Wooliscroft Road in Bucknall following reports of a fire.
A crew attended and found that outdoor furniture and a strimmer were involved in the fire.
Firefighters used one hose-reel jet to put the fire out.
The fire was later deemed to have started accidentally as a result of a discarded TV being in the area and alighting due to sunlight.
No one was injured.
The crew left the scent at 7.45pm.
In order to protect yourself and your property from the dangers of reflective material fires, firefighters advise that you should:
⦁ Always keep items with screens or reflective surfaces out of direct sunlight
⦁ Take special care with items that have convex or concave reflective surfaces as these can magnify the sun’s rays onto combustible items causing them to ignite.
