Warning after candles fire tackled

We have issued a candle safety reminder after firefighters attended a flat fire in Lichfield yesterday (Thursday 6 November).

We were called to an address on Hob’s Road just before 3.40pm following reports of a fire on the balcony of a second-floor property.

The fire was safely extinguished. No-one was injured.

Following an inspection, we believe that the fire was caused by accidental ignition from candles left unattended.

Watch manager Anthony Doolan said: “It’s important that candles are never left unattended and kept away from anything that could catch fire, such as curtains or furniture. We recommend swapping traditional candles for LED flameless ones.”

If you do use real candles, follow these simple safety tips: https://www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk/your-safety/safety-at-home/candle-safety/
