Warning after accidental lithium-ion battery house fire

Warning after accidental lithium-ion battery house fire

We are reminding people of the dangers of lithium-ion batteries after an accidental house fire in Draycott in the Moors.

Firefighters were called at around 1.40pm on Friday (6 March) to Stuart Avenue following reports of a fire at a property.

One crew attended the scene along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Police.

The fire was out on arrival.

A man was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

The fire was later deemed accidental as a result of a lithium-ion battery.

Station manager, Mark Tattum, said: "We are reminding people to:

  • Never keep items containing these batteries charging overnight, or for prolonged periods, without supervision
  • Ensure they are stored in cool areas, making sure they are not covered by anything or blocking an exit/entryway
  • These devices should also never be stored in areas prone to high-temperatures and only official chargers and attachments should be used."
