Three hectares of crop fire extinguished

We are reminding farmers of the increased risk of standing crop fires after crews were called to a large fire in east Staffordshire.

Crews were called at 3.35pm yesterday (Monday 20 July) to a field off Millbank Drive in Rocester following reports of a fire.

Three appliances, a water carrier and a ranger attended the scene and found approximately three hectares of crops well alight.

The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets and thankfully nobody was reported injured.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.

We are reminding farmers to follow our simple daily checklist to help prevent crop fires during the warm weather.

Always remember to:

• Check machinery for dust and defects
• Review weather and fire risk conditions
• Brief staff on emergency procedures
• Keep access routes clear.
