Statement following tragic death of Oxfordshire firefighters and member of the public in Bicester

We are absolutely devastated to hear the news that two firefighters from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and a member of the public have tragically lost their lives during an incident in Bicester.

Ten fire crews attended the incident at Bicester Motion having been called to the scene at 6.39pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday 15 May). Four crews remain at the scene today (Friday 16 May) and have brought the fire under control.

Two further firefighters have also sustained serious injuries while responding to the incident and are currently in hospital.  

Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber, said: “It’s with great sadness that we received the tragic news in Staffordshire today that two of our colleagues in Oxfordshire and a member of the public have lost their lives during an incident.

“The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are very much with the friends, loved ones and family members of those involved.

“We will continue to do everything possible to support our colleagues in Oxfordshire and to support those affected by this awful news.”
