Sprinkler system prevents spread of fire inside flats

We are highlighting the importance of sprinkler systems following a fire at a block of flats in Stafford.

Fire crews were called at 4.25am on Wednesday (22 October) to Milton Grove following reports of a fire.

Seven appliances attended the scene and found a small fire which had already been partially extinguished thanks to a sprinkler system installed in the building which had been activated.

A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with injuries.

Group Manager Mark Walchester said: “Fire sprinklers are widely recognised as the single most effective method for preventing fire spread in the early stages, and that was certainly the case in this incident.

“If the sprinkler had not been activated, the fire could have spread and become a bigger risk to residents.

“I would like to reiterate to all housing providers how important these systems are; they not only limit damage but have the ability to save lives.”
