Reminder to Get Out, Stay Out, following house fire

We are reminding residents to always Get Out, Stay Out, when a fire happens in the home after a man suffered smoke inhalation in a house fire.

Crews were called to a house in Cheslyn Hay, at 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 18 December).

Three crews attended the scene and found a fire inside the kitchen which was extinguished using a hose reel jet.

A man in his 80s was taken to hospital after he suffered smoke inhalation.

Station Manager, Sarah Smith, attended the scene. She said: “Crews worked quickly to isolate the fire and make sure those in the area were kept safe.

"During this incident, the man attempted to tackle the fire himself before crews got there, and he suffered smoke inhalation as a result.

“I would like to remind people that if a fire happens in the home, you should always Get Out, Stay Out, and call 999.

"Belongings are replaceable, but people are not."
