Reminder to complete online safety check after crews called to smoke-logged home

We are reminding residents to complete a free online fire safety check after crews were called to a house due to a cigarette being dropped onto a charger.

Crews were called just before 4.30pm on Monday (23 February) to Derby Road, Stretton, following reports of smoke coming from a nearby house.

Two crews attended the scene and found no sign of fire, but the living room was full of smoke.

The house was ventilated and nobody was reported injured.

The cause of the smoke was deemed to be a discarded cigarette being dropped onto a charger, causing it to overheat.

Crews completed a home fire safety visit before leaving the scene.

As part of a home fire safety visit, crews will give you personalised fire safety advise and fit free smoke alarms and heat detectors where appropriate.

To see if you are eligible for a visit, complete our free, online home fire safety check today.

The check only takes around 15-minutes and can protect you, your family and your home from fire.

To complete the online check, visit HFSC.
