Past and present firefighters celebrate 60th anniversary of community station

Firefighters past and present gathered on Thursday (10 July) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Tutbury Fire Station.

The station, on Bridge Street, first opened its doors on 10 July 1965 and since then has spent decades serving the local communities of Tutbury and surrounding areas.

To celebrate, past firefighters were welcomed back to the station to celebrate with current crews and Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Michelle Hickmott was in attendance to hear many stories from times gone by.

ACFO Hickmott said: “It is an honour to be here on the 60th anniversary of Tutbury Fire Station in its current form. It is really lovely to see past and present firefighters as we celebrate this anniversary, as it is the people who have made Tutbury Fire Station what it is today, a hub of the community.

“I would like to extend the service’s thanks to all Tutbury firefighters, officers and support staff who have given endless amount of energy, time and expertise over the years to serve the local community of Tutbury and beyond in Staffordshire.”

Also in attendance was Station Manager Andy Bourne, who formally acknowledged the memorial garden at the front of Tutbury Fire Station where flowers have been donated in memory of local firefighters who are no longer with us.

Jordan Fallows, Crew Manager at Tutbury said: “Tutbury Fire Station has been part of the community for well over 60 years and has seen many generations of on-call firefighters.

“Tonight’s celebration showed that and it was great to see a number of both past and present firefighters as we marked our 60th anniversary of our current station.

“We’re always keen for more on-call firefighters to join us, so if you are interested in giving back to your community visit our careers page to find out more. We’d also be delighted if you could join us at our family day on Saturday 19 July as we continue our celebrations.”
