New on-call firefighters celebrate with passing out parade

Our newest on-call firefighters celebrated the completion of their initial training last night (Tuesday 7 October) with a passing out parade at our HQ in Stone.

Twelve on-call firefighters attended the event to mark the completion of their 36-month assessment, meaning they are now fully competent firefighters.

They will now be posted at one of our fire stations across Staffordshire and respond to emergencies in their local community.

The event, which is the first on-call firefighter passing out parade held in three years, was marked by the ‘Presentation of Scrolls’ by Chief Fire Officer, Rob Barber.

Rob congratulated the new recruits on their achievements, saying: “I am delighted to welcome the new on-call firefighters to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and I look forward to seeing their journey continue.

“On-call firefighters are crucial in helping keep communities safe across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire and I am pleased there are so many new recruits joining the Service.”

Station Manager Duncan Cole, from the Learning and Development team, said: “This is a significant and memorable milestone in their development as firefighters and one which marks the beginning of their journey in making a meaningful contribution to their local communities.”

Congratulations to our new on-call firefighters: John Alliband, Paul Canham, Lewis Danks, Christopher Deakin, Richard Fitzpatrick, Jack Gunn, Daniel Harrison, Finlay Jenkinson, Matt Jones, Scott Leigh, Luke Timmis and Mark Wainwright.

Anyone over the age of 18, who lives or works close to an on-call station can apply to become an on-call firefighter, and all applicants will go through the same recruitment and training process.
