We are reminding people that lithium-ion batteries should never be disposed of with household waste following a vehicle fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Crews were called just before 11am today (Monday 9 March) to Burtree Drive, Norton, following reports of waste inside a bin lorry on fire.

The waste was emptied onto the road and a hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire.

Nobody was reported injured.

Crew Manager Nicola Hall-Malone attended the scene. She said: “This fire was caused accidentally, by a lithium-ion battery.

“Lithium-ion batteries are a significant fire risk when damaged and should never be disposed of alongside household waste. Instead, they should be taken to a designated recycling point.”
