Lithium battery warning following motorhome fire
Crews have tackled a fire sparked by a lithium-ion battery in a toy hoverboard in Stone.
We were called to The Fillybrooks at around 2.20am on Tuesday (17 March) after a report of a motorhome on fire.
When we arrived, we found a motorhome and two sheds alight.
Crews extinguished the fire, which is believed to have been caused when a lithium-ion battery in a toy hoverboard next to the vehicle got wet.
No injuries were reported.
Incident commander, watch manager Jack Reinholds, said: “A wet lithium-ion battery is a safety hazard, as water can cause internal short-circuiting, rapid overheating, toxic gas release and fire. Please bare this in mind when storing devices with these batteries.
“Thankfully, on this occasion, we were able to act quickly and prevent any further spread of the fire.”
