House fire caused by hair dryer extinguished
We are reminding people to always check electrical appliances are turned off when not in use following a house fire in Cheadle.
Crews were called at 1.15am on Monday (2 February) to a house off Froghall Road following reports of smoke coming from a house.
Two appliances attended the scene and found a fire in an upstairs bedroom.
The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet and nobody was reported injured.
Crew Manager Craig Barks attended the scene. He said: “We deemed the cause of this fire to be accidental, from a hair dryer being left on.
“I would like to remind people to always turn off and unplug electrical appliances when not in use, especially ones that produce heat such as hair dryers, curlers and straighteners.
“All electrical appliances should also have a British or European safety mark when you buy them and sockets should never be overloaded – keep one appliance to one plug where possible.”
