Firefighters to advise on outdoor safety at County Show

Firefighters are preparing to advise our communities on the importance of staying safe outdoors as part of this year’s County Show.

The show, which is due to run from 31 May to 1 June, will see a variety of fire fighters and fire service staff attend the County Show Ground on Weston Road in Stafford from 8am to 6pm each day.

Fire crews will be running their own stand at the event and be on hand to speak to visitors on the issues that matter to them and their communities; particularly focusing on how to keep safe outside during the summer months.

Firefighters will also be on hand to help you find out more about safe-and-well checks in your area, our community-based projects and how to get involved as well as our ongoing recruitment campaign.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore one of our Rosenbauer fire appliances and test their speed in a competition to get their fire kit on!

Children will be able to meet our mascot, Welephant, as well as take part in a water safety quiz with a chance to win a visit to a fire station. Little ones, aged four to eight, will be able to sign up to the Welephant Club for fun-filled updates on the work of the fire service in their area, with activities for them to continue to get involved and learn about fire safety.

Rob Barber, chief fire officer at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We always look forward to taking part in the County Show and this year is no exception.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to find out more about our work in their area and for us to meet you and your family.

“There will be opportunities for people to find out about what it takes to become a whole-time or on-call firefighter as well as arrange for smoke alarm testing and other checks.

“We hope that everyone attending is able to learn more about keeping safe this summer and has a fun-filled fantastic time!”
