Firefighters extinguish grassland fire

Firefighters have extinguished a large fire in grassland at Cannock Chase.

Crews were called to land off Pye Green Road, Cannock, at 11.15am yesterday (Wednesday 11 June) following reports of a fire.

Three appliances attended the scene and found an area of grassland and woodland measuring approximately 110m by 50m well alight.

Two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire and nobody was reported injured.

The fire was deemed to have been caused deliberately and crews left the scene just before 2pm.

General Manager, Dave Steele, said: “Although this fire was quickly extinguished and nobody was injured in the blaze, there could have easily been a different outcome.

“I would like to remind people of the dangers of deliberately lighting fires, especially in areas of woodland and grassland where fire can spread easily and get out of hand.”
