Fire extinguished at Stafford business

We have extinguished a fire at a business in Stafford town centre.

Fire crews were called to a premises on Greengate Street at 10.40am today (Wednesday 4 June) following reports of a fire.

Three appliances attended and evacuated the building before extinguishing a fire on the ground and first floors.

Thankfully, nobody was reported injured.

The fire was later deemed to have been caused accidentally by smoking materials.

If you smoke inside, we would urge you to be cautious and follow the safety advice below@

  • Make sure your cigarette is fully extinguished and carefully disposed of
  • Never smoke in bed – you could easily doze off and set your bed on fire
  • Always use a proper ashtray which is made of material which can’t burn or tip over
  • Take extra care when you’re tired, are taking any medication or have been drinking alcohol
  • Keep matches and lighters away from children
