Fire crews extinguish large fire on railway embankment

Firefighters have extinguished a large fire on a railway embankment in Tamworth.

Crews were called to land off Burton Road at 2pm on Friday (25 July) following reports of smoke coming from a railway line.

Three appliances attended the scene alongside colleagues from Network Rail.

Crews used backpacks to extinguish a fire on the embankment measuring approximately five by 300 metres.

Thankfully, nobody was reported injured.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place in due course.
