Fire crews extinguish accidental house fire in Cobridge

Seven people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after we extinguished an accidental house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

We were called at 3.10am on Saturday (14 June) to Hillary Street in Cobridge following reports of a house fire.

Three appliances and an aerial ladder platform attended the scene and found the first floor of a house well alight.

Crews used breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire whilst the house and neighbouring properties were evacuated by colleagues from Staffordshire Police.

Seven people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was later deemed to have been caused accidentally, by a candle falling onto a pile of clothes.

Station Manager, Mark Tattum, said: “Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish this fire when the alarm was raised by police officers who spotted it while patrolling.

“Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but it goes to show how easily accidental fires can happen, particularly when naked flames are used indoors.”
