Electrical safety reminder following dryer fire

We are reminding people of some key electrical safety tips after a tumble dryer caused a house fire in Lichfield.

A crew was called at 7.45am today (Wednesday 4 March) to a house off Ponesfield Road, following reports of a tumble dryer on fire.

The fire was out on arrival and firefighters moved removed the tumble dryer from the house.

Watch Manager Arturs Grotans said: “The cause of this fire was accidental and thankfully nobody was injured.

“I would like to remind people to always use a single plug socket for large appliances, clean the filter on your tumble dryer regularly and ensure all appliances have a safety mark on them.”

Over the past year, we have attended over 400 accidental house fires in Staffordshire, most of which were preventable.

We are urging people to complete a short online survey to ensure you are as safe as possible from a fire.

The check only takes around 15-minutes to complete and can be done via the link here: HFSC.
