Crews tackle large business fire

Firefighters tackled a large fire at a business in Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday (6 December).

Crews were called at 3pm to Uttoxeter Road, Longton, following reports of smoke and flames coming from a building.

Four crews attended the scene and found a fire inside a business which had spread to the first floor.

The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets and a main jet and nobody was reported injured.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental, due to potentially faulty equipment.

Faulty electrics such as overloaded sockets and broken appliances cause around 7,000 fires across the country every year.

To reduce the risk of fire, we recommend that all damaged cables are replaced, one appliance is kept to one plug where possible and to always unplug appliances when they’re not in use.
