Crews successfully rescue horse following horsebox overturn on M6 toll
Fire crews have successfully rescued a horse after it was injured when a horsebox overturned on the M6.
We were called at 5.20pm to the M6 toll south on Sunday (14 September) following reports of a horse being trapped in an overturned vehicle.
Two crews and a further specialist animal rescue crew attended the scene.
A horsebox was found on its side with the horse inside.
Colleagues from Staffordshire Police and Highways attended the scene.
A vet sedated the horse and the carriageway was closed to prevent noise disruption to the horse while crews worked to remove it from the horsebox.
The horse was successfully removed from the horsebox just after 10pm and was treated by a vet before being taken to a specialist hospital.
Fire crews left the scene at 10.30pm.
The road was reopened by Highways a short time later.
A vet has since advised that the horse should make a full recovery.
