Crews called to garden fire in Stoke-on-Trent

We are reminding people to take care when burning waste after crews were called to a garden fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Crews were called at 11.50am today (Wednesday 25 February) to Ruxley Road, Bucknall, following reports of a conifer well alight.

One appliance attended the scene and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Nobody was reported injured.

Watch Manager Tom Harrison attended the scene. He said: “This fire was caused accidentally, by a brazier being too close to overhanging trees and fence panels.

“There was also too much rubbish in the brazier, which led to the fire growing and becoming out of control.

“I would like to remind residents to avoid burning rubbish in the garden and take it to the tip wherever possible.”
