Fire crews have attended an accidental garden fire in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Firefighters were called to an address off Acacia Avenue, at 5.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 July) following reports of a fire in a garden.

Crews from Burslem, Hanley, Newcastle and Sandyford and paramedics attended.

On arrival, crews located a fire in a garden that had spread to the decking area and outer skirts of the property.

Four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a positive pressure ventilator were used to extinguish the fire.

A man, in his 70s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was deemed as accidental.

Crews left the scene at 8.50pm.
