Could you provide day cover as an on-call firefighter?

If you are considering becoming an on-call firefighter, Uttoxeter Fire and Police Station currently has vacancies for on-call.

We are currently recruiting new on-call firefighters at on-call stations across the county, and Uttoxeter in particular is looking for people who could serve as an on-call firefighter during the day (between 8am and 5pm) on weekdays, perhaps around shift work, working from home or family commitments.

Bobby Civil has been an on-call firefighter at Uttoxeter for ten years. He said: "When I first started the role, I worked nights in a hotel and was on-call during the day.

"The role can work around shifts, family life or other commitments.

"It's really important for us to have more on-call firefighters during the day because it allows us to attend more incidents, carry out risk visits and get out and about in the community more often.

"We understand that people have lives outside of firefighting, so we're more than willing to work with you, have a chat and see what pattern could work around you.

"The role would fit perfectly for anyone who works nights, like I used to, or shifts that aren't 9am to 5pm, or has other commitments, we can work around you."

Anyone over the age of 18, who lives or works close to an on-call station can apply to become an on-call firefighter, and all applicants will go through the same recruitment and training process.

Uttoxeter Police and Fire Station is one location currently accepting applications for new on-call firefighters to join the crew and inviting potential applicants to their drill night.

Bobby said: "The job is so exciting, you never know what you're going to be called to.

"Uttoxeter is also a great place to be because we've got a huge range of experience levels, from brand-new firefighters to those who have been here for 30 years.

"I would encourage anyone considering the role to come down and have a chat with us. Pop down to a drill night, which is every Monday from 6pm to 8pm, and we can discuss the role more and how it might work for you."
