Cooking safety reminder following house fire in Stoke-on-Trent
We are reminding residents to take care when cooking following a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.
Crews were called at 7.45pm on Wednesday (11 February) to a house off Milton Road, Sneyd Green, following reports smoke coming from a kitchen.
Two appliances attended the scene and ventilated the affected property.
One occupant, a man, was treated at the scene by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service after suffering smoke inhalation.
Watch Manager Neil Cheshire attended the scene. He said: “More than 50 per cent of the fires we attend are caused by cooking, and in this incident, it was caused by a chip pan being left on.
“We are reminding people to always ‘look when you cook’, avoid cooking if you have been drinking alcohol and if possible, avoid a chip pan entirely and use an electric deep fat fryer instead.”
Over the past year, we have attended over 400 accidental house fires in Staffordshire, most of which were preventable.
We are urging people to complete a short online survey to ensure you are as safe as possible from a fire.
The check only takes around 15-minutes to complete and can be done via the link here: HFSC.
