Cooking safety reminder following house fire

We are reminding people of some key cooking safety tips after firefighters tackled a house fire in Rugeley.

Crews were called just after 9pm on Saturday (8 November) to a house on Lion Street following reports of a house fire.

Three appliances attended the scene and used a hose reel jet to extinguish a fire in the kitchen.

A man in his 50s was treated at the scene by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.

The fire was later deemed to have been caused accidentally, by burnt food on the cooker.

Watch Manager Wesley Southall attended the scene. He said: “Around 50 per cent of the fires that we attend are caused by cooking and distraction is the main cause of these fires.

“I would like to remind people to always ‘look when you cook’ and take pans off the heat if you need to leave the room.”
