Water safety reminder after crews called to lake

We are reminding people of the dangers of entering open water after crews were called to a lake in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (Monday 8 June).

We were called at 8.15pm to Ford Green Road following reports of three children in a lake.

Four appliances attended the scene and thoroughly searched the area, but nobody was seen in the water.

Station Manager Jon Jackson attended the scene. He said: “We worked alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service and determined that the children had made their own way home before we arrived.

“I would remind people that whilst open water might seem inviting, there can be hidden dangers such as sharp items and strong currents.

“The water is also likely to be much colder than you expect, making it hard to swim.

“If you get into trouble in water, remember to float on your back until help arrives.”
