Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service recognised for supporting veterans
We have been presented with a Gold Employer Recognition Award from the Ministry of Defence for our commitment to supporting our armed forces and veteran communities in Staffordshire.
The Gold award is the Ministry of Defence’s highest badge of honour in recognition of supporting the armed force community and we’re one of only 10 employers given the award in total.
In 2022, we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging to support military personnel past and present.
To achieve the Gold Award status, we have committed to provide at least 10 days' additional paid leave for Reservists each year. We also have supportive HR policies for reservists, service families, veterans and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
We also pledge to provide all veterans with the option to have a free Home Fire Safety Visit, where we provide free smoke alarms where appropriate and give personalised fire safety advice.
Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj, said: "I am proud that this recognition acknowledges the lasting commitment we have shown to the Armed Forces Covenant over many years.
“It also celebrates how that commitment continues to evolve, most recently through the creation of our internal Armed Forces Network, which strengthens the support and connection for the armed forces community within Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service."
Minister for Veterans and People, Calvin Bailey MBE MP said: "For a veteran starting a new chapter, or a Reservist balancing two demanding roles, having an employer in your corner makes an enormous difference.
“These 162 organisations have gone out of their way to make veterans, Reservists and military families feel genuinely welcome and supported. I'm incredibly proud to recognise them, and I hope their example inspires many more."
