Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is inviting communities and local residents of all ages to its fun-filled Family Day this Saturday (10 September).

The event – which is free to attend and the first Family Day to be held since 2018 due to the pandemic, will take place on Saturday (10 September) 11am-3pm at the Service’s Pirehill headquarters near Stone.

From daring rescue demonstrations, to seeing the fire appliances fleet, to treasure hunts and plenty of other games and activities, there is something for everyone.

The service’s aerial ladder platform, Unimog off-road vehicle, and other emergency vehicles will be showcased at the event, while firefighters will demonstrate rope rescues and extrication techniques that are used in road traffic collisions.

Young people can take part in various games and activities, including penalty shoot-outs to hook-a-duck, as well as enter competitions to win a host of top prizes including an Amazon Fire HD10 tablet, Go Ape tickets and cookery classes.

Children can also sign up to join the service’s Welephant Club, find hidden prizes in a treasure hunt and meet our trusty mascots!

And there will be plenty of refreshments including a barbecue, hog roast, children’s meals, ice creams and hot and cold drinks. Picnics are also welcome and there is a complimentary water dispenser on site.

Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber, said: “We’re all looking forward to welcoming members of the communities we serve to our headquarters to enjoy family day with us.

“The event has always proved very popular with people of all ages and this year will be no different.

“There will be a wide range of activities and entertainment and it’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the work we do.

“We will be joined by partners from across the county including Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, New Era and the Canal & River Trust. It will be a fun-packed day and even better, it is completely free of charge to attend – parking is free too!

“All of the profits from the event will go directly to the Fire Fighters Charity. They’re an extremely worthwhile cause offering specialist, lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community.

“We cannot wait to welcome you all!”
