Reminder after bonfire spreads to grass

We are reminding people to avoid burning waste at home after crews were called to a grass fire in south Staffordshire.

We were called at 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday 23 August) to a field off Swan Lane in Shareshill following reports of a fire.

Two appliances attended the scene and found an area of grassland well alight.

The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet and thankfully nobody was reported injured.

Station Manager Danielle Coleman attended the scene. She said: “This incident was caused by a bonfire which had become out of control.

“With the recent warm, dry weather, the smallest spark can ignite and spread so we are urging people not to burn waste at home.”
