Large grass fire extinguished

Firefighters have extinguished a large grass fire in Wolverhampton.

We were called at 9.55pm yesterday (Monday 3 August) to a field off Great Moor Road in Pattingham following reports of a fire.

Five appliances and the water carrier attended the scene and found an area of grassland measuring approximately 70 metres by 100 metres well alight.

Crews used an extended hose reel jet to surround the fire before extinguishing it using a wildfire hose.

Station Manager Danielle Coleman attended the scene. She said: “The cause of this fire was deemed to be accidental.

“We are experiencing extremely high demand across Staffordshire at the moment and I would urge people to take care in the countryside.

“Remember to take your rubbish home, avoid having barbeques and open fires and extinguish cigarettes properly.”
