Two firefighter silhouettes in smoke

A 17-year-old Jack Russell dog has died following a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Firefighters were called to an address off Garbett Street in Goldenhill, just after 11.20am on Tuesday (25 October).

The dog was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to a local vet for further treatment.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of the veterinary staff, the dog was pronounced dead a short time later.

A woman, in her 30s, was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

She has since been discharged.
