House fires caused by electrical fault in Stone

A fire on Sunday afternoon (20 September) in Stone which affected three properties was caused by an electrical fault in a loft, a fire investigation has established.

At the height of the incident, five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were used to tackle the blaze which started shortly after 4pm at a property on Chestnut Grove.

Those inside the homes evacuated and the fire was safely extinguished.

Our colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service assessed a woman for potential smoke inhalation. She was discharged at the scene.

The remaining crews left the scene just before 10pm on Sunday evening.

Station Manager Ant Ball, who attended the incident, said: “This incident goes to show the importance of having working fire alarms in properties.

“This fire took place in the loft space of a terraced property which quickly spread to the adjoining homes. If it wasn’t for the working smoke alarms in the properties, those inside may not have been alerted to the fire before it spread beyond control.

“These incidents can have very different outcomes if homes do not have working smoke alarms, and I’m pleased that our crews were able to safely extinguish the fire and minimise the spread.”
