Firefighters take part in 'emotional' 9/11 memorial event
Eleven firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have taken part in an 'emotional' event to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
A total of 234 firefighters travelled to Atlanta, USA, for the event which took place on Saturday (5 September).
They climbed 110 floors, the height of the World Trade Centre, to honour those who lost their lives.
One of our firefighters who took part, Bob Mortimer, said: "I joined the service on 31st August 2001 and the events that took place less than two weeks later shaped my entire career.
"The climb was an emotional event; each of us carrying a lanyard with a picture of one of the 343 firefighters who died on 9/11.
"I'm proud to be a part of the organising committee that managed to get hundreds of firefighters representing 96 per cent of UK Fire Services to Atlanta to take part in the memorial stair climb."
